England’s Weekly winners and losers

The Premier League season is over, so who finished on high, who finished on a low and who made an 11th hour bid for a World Cup place?

Winners

Ademola Lookman

The young winger’s record with Red Bull Leipzig  reads 11 games, 7 starts, 5 goals and 4 assists and to think ‘Big’ Sam didn’t fancy him and spent £20million on Theo Walcott (England really messed up sacking him!) A World Cup Wildcard pick?

Dominic Solanke

Gary Lineker was quick to point out Solanke had finally broken his duck at the 28th time of asking. Or to put it another way this was a goal in only his fifth start. After surprisingly being picked to start he set up Salah for the breakthrough goal in the first half and then Salah returned the favour laying the ball on for Solanke to lash home his first Liverpool goal.

The dilemma with Solanke is he clearly has the tools to be a top class forward but needs games to put it all together and that means breaking into the Anfield Trinity of Salah-Firmino-Sane, a huge ask! Does a year at Ibrox with another Anfield legend beckon?

First goal for Liverpool!

Phil Foden

Got on with 8 minutes to go of City’s record-breaking season meaning he has 5 appearances and earns a medal! Still had the time to flash his potential with a beautiful cross , much like Solanke the question with Foden is will he better served spending another season on the bench under the tutelage of a great manager or seek a seasons loan. If it’s to be the later expect half the Bundesliga to be on the phone.

Jamie Vardy

2 great goals at Wembley for the England striker…

Harry Kane

But anything Jamie Vardy can do I can do…and win.

Nat Chalobah

Finally back from a 9 month injury absence, would have been a World Cup contender had he played a full season but at least will be ready for the start of next.

Jonjo Shelvey

Another excellent display in midfield and another assist. Gareth Southgate doesn’t fancy him but with other midfield options closed (Oxlade-Chamberlain, Winks, Lallana) might he sneak into the 23?

Losers

Danny Rose

Apparently was playing as a fullback against Leicester!

Ross Barkley

Ran around a bit but woefully short of match sharpness, needs a full pre-season.

Jordan Pickford

A bad day at the office for the prospective England number 1, letting 3 bad goals in and giving Gareth Southgate yet another headache.

John Terry

Remember his embarrassing 26th minute guard of honour moment? In the 22nd minute of Arsenal v Huddersfield the home team sent a message around the Stadium saying Merci Arsene! without stopping the game, without colluding with the opposing team goalkeeper and manager and without the man himself looking a self-important prat! Take note JT!

Not a mid game guard of honour in sight!
