England’s weekly winners and losers

With the club season winding down and the World Cup upon us who’s hot and who’s not?

Winners

Harry Kane

It’s been a tough few weeks for Kane and this one started badly with a poor display at West Brom followed by a fresh air shot at Wembley. But a beautiful strike to bring up his 40 for the season and secure Champions League Football drew a line under the ‘slump.’

Tom Davies

It’s been a year of quiet progress for the young box to box midfielder who’s amassed 42 appearances this season and scored a late equaliser to give Southampton a few nervy days earlier this week. Not likely to get a World Cup call but an increasingly important player for Everton and the Under 21s

John Stones

A relief to see him back and keeping a clean sheet. Huddersfield were never likely to test him too much but looked solid and can look forward to his first World Cup.

Jake Livermore

Am I the only one worried to see Livermore delivering his best performance of the season and a goal 10 days before England’s World Cup Squad is announced?

Losers

Marcus Rashford

Listless against Brighton and hung out to dry by his manager lead to suggestions he might be on the move this summer. Mourinho insists that won’t happen but it’s been a season of little progress for the precocious striker.

Alfie Mawson

Almost certainly relegated with Swansea, Mawson hasn’t had a terrible season but now needs a move to keep his England ambitions alive- West Ham would seem an obvious fit.

Jack Butland

Absolutely certainly relegated with Stoke. Butland hasn’t been blameless but is far too good to play next season in the Championship. The question is has this season seen his potential suitors go from being Liverpool/ Arsenal to Newcastle/ Watford?

Joe Gomez

Poor lad. He will get more chances
